Eyam, Derbyshire

Eyam in Derbyshire is the latest addition to the One-Place Studies Directory.

Eyam is famous for the bravery of its villagers when struck by the Plague in 1665-66. Instead of fleeing, they isolated the village and in so doing prevented the plague from spreading. Estimates put the death toll around 260 – about three quarters of the population.
