Chapman of Dawlish – Images of Devon

Chapman of Dawilsh - 1 August 1892

If you are studying a place in Devon, be sure to check the Chapman collection.

It consists of 3,000+ glass negatives and 2,000+ prints (taken mostly from the plates), produced by commercial photographers, Chapman & Sons of Dawlish, between c.1890 and the firm’s closure in 1967. Most are landscape images intended to be mass produced for postcards.

The prints and negatives are accessible as 3,749 digitised images on the Dartmoor Trust Archive website.
